Over the course of twelve days, 20 Maine sculptors will come together at J.C. Stone’s headquarters in Jefferson Maine to create new works of art. Now in our third year the symposium has a new element geared towards helping aspiring stone sculptors learn the craft. Working with the Maine Stone Workers Guild, a portion of all sponsorship monies raised and ticket sales for the artist reception will go to a newly created Apprentice Scholarship. For the symposium J.C. Stone provides the sculptors with everything they need to create their art – food, lodging, materials, and much more. With our strong connection to Maine’s granite past (and future) and our love of the arts this event brings the best of both Maine traditions together.
Information on past symposiums is available on the J.C. Stone website as well as our Facebook page. This includes pictures of previous sculptures and artist information. The website and the Facebook page will receive updates for the 2012 symposium as plans are finalized.
